Stubbing Wharf

Ten minutes walk along the towpath from Hebden’s centre, the Stubbing Wharf is a thriving pub situated between the River Calder and the Rochdale Canal. Children, dogs, walkers and boaters are welcome. On sunny days you can sit on wooden benches beside the canal, gazing out over colourful narrowboats and wooded hillsides. During chillier months a real fire keeps the olde worlde interior cosy. The wood panelled ceiling, mismatched wooden tables and simple red/cream décor create a homely feel. There’s a good range of guest ales and probably the finest selection of ciders in town.

The Town of Illingworth

Illingworth is a village within the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale, in West Yorkshire, England. The appropriate Calderdale Ward is called Illingworth and Mixenden. The population of this ward at the 2011 Census was 12,739.[1] It is situated 3.3 miles (5.3 km) north-west of Halifax.

The village of Illingworth has competitive sports teams within the area including Crossleys Juniors (football), Illingworth C.C. (cricket) and Illingworth A.R.L.F.C. (rugby league) who play at Mason Green in the Pennine League.

The village also has the former Illingworth Gaol and village stocks. The gaol has an inscription above the door giving the date as 1823 of when it was built. It had four cells. In June 2009, it was advertised for sale by auction
